The TA752 Stereo power amplifier is a minimalist 350W per channel switching amplifier designed to interface between any quality stereo line source and in particular, the Townshend Audio TA702 pre-amplifier, TA712 Active Pure Analogue Room Correction System and the Townshend Audio Glastonbury III loudspeakers, as part of the astonishing Townshend Audio state-of-the-art High Fidelity system. Other quality speakers may, of course, also be used.

The power amp features state of the art switching amplifiers which are remarkable in that they give a sound not unlike the best triode amplifiers but without their pitfalls. The bass is amazingly tight and accurate, the midband is clear and open and the treble is sharp whilst velvety smooth. Further there seems to be limitless power and all with an efficiency of 92 percent! This allows for a smaller, less wasteful configuration that will not consume a vast amount of unnecessary power whilst still capable of delivering huge amounts of luscious power for the most satisfying listening experience.

All wiring is by enhanced deep cryogenic treated twisted pair enamelled copper wire with meticulous care to ensure that the earthing is only in a star configuration to prevent earth loops and hence the injection of hum. Further, the wiring is all contained in PTFE sleeving so as to keep the signal wires clear of any steel case material.

The signal path is minimalist! In from the phono connectors to the power modules and then to the output sockets. Three sets of gold plated spade/banana/bare wire binding posts are provided for mono, bi or tri-wiring. The amplifier is fully protected against short circuits and overdriving. Isolda EDCT Impedance Matched cables are virtually mandatory if the full potential of this amplifier is to be realized.

When the TA752 Power amp is used in conjunction with the Townshend Audio Glastonbury III Loudspeakers, the Townshend Audio TA712 active pure analogue room correction system must be incorporated.

The main AC input power is first filtered by a unique RF blocking filter which is uniquely effective down to the essentially low frequency of 150kHz for optimum noise performance. It is then switched by the illuminated push-button front panel control. The power then feeds a massive 500VA torroidal power transformer driving a bridge/capacitor filter network. If, for any unforeseen circumstance, DC appears at the output terminals, this is sensed by the DC protection system and the amplifier is immediately disconnected from the power supply to prevent any loudspeaker damage. The protection circuitry is fully automatic in re-connecting after any fault is removed.

The TA752 power amplifier is housed in a very simple spectacular mirror finished stainless steel case suspended on our unique spring/bellows air-damped isolation feet. This vibration isolation system isolates ground-borne vibration from 3.5Hz and up to ensure the most open sound possible. Connectors are heavily gold plated phonos and we virtually insist that, for the best possible sound, the interconnections are by way of our DCT 300 Isolda interconnects. The mains input is by way of a fused IEC connector.

The low level DC is provided by the Low Level DC Power Supply.

The Low Level DC Supply - technical details

All Townshend Audio electronics employ a common design of low level DC power supply. circuitry modelled on the circuitry used in the acclaimed TA565 CD Universal Player. The incoming AC is transformed from 230V AC (110V optional) by high RF isolation “E-I” overload protected transformers to the low voltage required by the dual Schottkey diode rectifier bridges. This raw DC is then filtered by a three stage resistance/capacitance/inductance network to block seriously attenuate all RF and switching noise from 2Hz up 3Ghz +. The plus and minus DC is then fed to the various amplifier/buffer stages where it is regulated precisely by a discrete component, ultra-low-noise, precision voltage stabiliser circuit. This further rejects RF interference. The power supply filter arrangement is so effective that external power conditioners and state-of-the-art mains leads have, so far, had no discernable effect on the sound; however, their use is not discouraged.

The power arrangements for pedantic 'housekeeping' of other functions (such as the remote control function, and the indicator LEDs) is derived from a second, completely independent, transformer/rectifier/filter circuit. A slow-on/quick-off circuit, integrated with the mute circuit, ensures that no speaker-damaging transient surges appear at the output terminals.
